Leafing through a gardening magazine brought the solution to the problems Mr and Mrs Chambers of Hampshire were experiencing with their conservatory.

Built 14-years-ago on a south-facing wall the double-glazing roof panels had failed. The glass panels had not only become fogged, leaves were getting in between the panes.

Before: leaves have actually made their way inside the sealed units!

The couple didn't want their conservatory replaced as the rest of the structure was sound, but when they contacted conservatory companies no one was interested in repairing or replacing the roof - they only wanted to sell a whole new conservatory.

"Finding INSU's advertisement in the magazine was the perfect answer," said Mr Chambers.

INSU replaced all the roof panels and installed a new PVCu facia panel on the inside of the conservatory below the ridge. This had become distorted because the conservatory became so hot during the summer months.

INSU also applied an Insusolar heat deflecting laminate to the double-glazed panels of the conservatory roof to cut unwanted heat.

"We couldn't use the conservatory in the depths of summer," explained Mr Chambers. "The temperature could rise to 53°C, but now 27°C is the highest we have registered.

"We are now able to use our conservatory because it is comfortable to sit in.

"When it came to having the double doors at the front open, INSU had an answer to stopping insects coming in. The company fitted an insect screen of fine mesh, which we pull across. When it isn't in use it folds back to become integrated into the door.

"The new roof has improved the conservatory considerably and given it a new lease of life.

"When the roof was replaced the workmanship was very good, the whole place was cleared up and looked like new when they had finished."

INSU FACT: Applying a heat deflecting film (or solar laminate) to other double-glazed units such as walls and doors also helps reduce heat significantly.
