Is strong sunlight through the windows making it uncomfortably hot and fading your furnishings? Is glare causing eye strain and making it difficult to see your computer screen?
Insu 'Clear View' roller, computer and vertical louvre blinds and optical laminates help make rooms cool, and comfortable without affecting the outside view. Their excellent performance far surpasses that of any conventional blind because insu's crystal clear heat reflectors exclude the heat before it can enter the room. They eliminate up to 70 per cent of the sun's heat, cut glare and exclude 99 per cent of ultra-violet rays. Winter insulating blinds can reduce heat loss by up to 70%.
Insu 'Clear View' blinds and optical laminates are ideal for any application - whether home or office - and are popular because, unlike traditional blinds and curtains, they do not cut out the light or obscure the view.
Insu heat reflectors are made from polymer films of the highest optical clarity which contain finely divided metals and metal oxides that transmit or reflect chosen wavelengths of light and heat to selectively reduce heat and glare and give excellent clarity.
There are four main applications which require a simply installed, lightweight, durable and maintenance-free solution to summer heat, glare and protection from fading:
Patio doors, picture windows, where computers are used, loft rooflights, conservatories and all windows with excessive sunlight and glare.
Computer and display screen areas, general offices, rooflights, conservatories and atria, recreation/leisure centres, shop fronts, petrol stations, car showrooms, security gatehouses, restaurants and reception areas.
Ship's bridges, cabins, restaurants and recreation areas, lookouts.
Air traffic control towers, weather stations, perimeter lookouts.
'Clear View' blinds, computer blinds and optical laminates can be used on all types of glazing. The most suitable option will depend upon the relative importance of glare control. Severe glare will dictate the use of blinds.
A full description of each product and its fittings for all major types of windows, doors and rooflights is shown as follows:For these windows, we recommend either a 'Clear View' heat and glare-reflecting roller or computer blinds 'Clear View' vertical louvre blind or 'Clear View' optical laminates.
Comprising steel fixing brackets and a roller made from heavy gauge aluminium tube, this has a sidewinder or spring rachet control for neatness and smoothness of operation.
All moving parts are made from low friction materials for durability and to ensure the blind is maintenance-free. The bottom of the blind is sealed into a neat bottom rail. The two fixing brackets are fitted to either the window frame or into the top of the window.
A cassetted version is also available, where the roller is enclosed to provide a totally inconspicuous appearance. The blind runs in side and bottom channels which are simply fitted to the window surround.
Although blinds can be supplied up to a maximum width of 2.5 metres (150”), we recommend fitting multiple blinds to windows wider than 1.5m. Fitting is simple and straightforward.
The louvre head rail consists of extruded aluminium channels, (available in a choice of colours) fitted with sliding hooks which hold each individual vane. These can be drawn and rotated to control the position and angle of the vanes.
The vanes come in widths of 31/2” (89mm) or 5” (127mm) and are cut from reels of the transparent blind material with an overlapping fold at top and bottom. This fold is bonded to create a pocket for the top hanger (which fixes into the sliding hook in the track) and bottom weight (to hold the vane taut). The bottom weights are attached to each other with an inconspicuous chain to ensure correct spacing and vane rotation.
The vanes are drawn, opened or closed, and rotated by pulling a nylon cord or a beaded chain. A long draw cord and extended length beaded control chain are available for high windows.
Louvres can be made to fit almost any size and type of window. Manufacturers' advice should be sought when fitting louvres to sloping soffits.
Fixing is simple, using brackets fitted to the window frame or into the top of the window. The headtrack is easily installed by clipping it into the bracket or fixings.
Optical laminates can be simply and directly fitted to existing or new glass using an ultra-violet stable adhesive. They become an integral part of the glazing. Fitting is simple and straightforward comprising cleaning of the glass, followed by the removal of a protective liner from the laminate to expose the adhesive. This is sprayed with a water-based surfactant solution to render it non-tacky before applying the laminate to the glass. A rubber blade is pressed and pushed across the window to force excess surfactant from behind the laminate and to bond the adhesive to the glass.
Where a window dimension exceeds 5 feet (150cm), a vertical seam is necessary but this is invisible.
All laminates also render glass shatter-resistant which means greater safety. Special grades are available which effectively upgrade plain glass to BS 6206/6262 - the British standard for safety glazing. These are crystal clear or tinted and exclude ultra violet rays to protect against fading.
Various grades can be supplied including one-way vision types for cash offices and where privacy is needed. No maintenance or special cleaning is required, simply clean like glass.
For these areas we recommend 'Clear View' constant tension roof and side blinds or 'Clear View' optical laminates.
These comprise steel fixing brackets which hold the roller blind firmly so that it can be operated at any angle - even upside down. The roller is made from heavy gauge aluminium and employs a constant tension spring which ensures the blind is always taut. A control cord operates the blind independently from floor level. This passes through transfer pulleys so that the blind can be operated from any convenient position in the room. A special, one-way cleat provides easy adjusting of the blind.
Blinds of all shapes can be made as long as the outline required can be drawn within a regular rectangle.
In general, a maximum width of 1.8m (72”) is recommended, although larger blinds can be made (with a clear, horizontal seam). A cassetted, pelmetted version is also available.
