Polycarbonate Roofs

The conservatory roof is the part of your conservatory that requires the most attention - it's open to wind, rain, snow, and sun that can deteriorate the structure and damage the polycarbonate panels causing leaks, failed flashings, and valley gutters and making the conservatory look distinctly down at heal. See diagram of common problems. It is the conservatory roof that holds the key to an attractive conservatory and a comfortable living environment. It really pays to get the right solution - Insu are specialists in conservatory roof repair and replacement and will advise you as to your options and best course of action.

Complete New Roof

Complete new conservatory roof

It is rare that a conservatory requires a complete new roof structure inclusive of all components such as glazing bars and covers, support beams and ridges and glazing. Generally the conservatory can be refurbished/repaired and upgraded with Insu genuine replacement components.

However, where the conservatory roof has become structurally unsound, it may be best to replace with a new modern roofing system. Our experience shows that this is most likely to be required for ageing wooden conservatories, but may also be relevant for early or DIY systems. Any new roof will be specified to compliment the look of your existing conservatory.

You could even change the shape of your roof

As long as the side window units were designed for a conservatory system with an eaves beam you could even change the shape of your roof! Of course you don't need to replace your conservatory roof with one of the same style. Transform it from a lean to garden room to a stylish Edwardian or Regency version!

Apart from making your conservatory look as good as new, and extended its life by up to 25 years, you'll be able to use the conservatory in comfort throughout the year with economic fuel bills in winter. Best of all the roof will never need maintenance or painting again, and be completely maintenance free. We can also fit our specially designed Roof-vents, these enable you to put ladders up through the conservatory roof for maintenance, or painting of the house gutters and soffits.

A new roof in glass?

Generally speaking polycarbonate roofed conservatories cannot be replaced with glass as the conservatory structure has been designed to support only the weight of lightweight polycarbonate, and this is definitely the case where conservatory side glazing is constructed from normal window frame units. However certain conservatory system manufacturers use a universal roof and window system which will accommodate double glazed units. Insu can identify and advise on this after inspecting the conservatory.

Replace and Upgrade with New Insupolycarbonate Roof panels

Very often the conservatory roof structure is sound but the polycarbonate panels are showing signs of deterioration or have poor winter insulation, or in summer they are too hot for comfortable use making them unusable for much of the year.

In these circumstances fitting new Insupolycarbonate roofing panels should be considered.

Specially designed for Conservatory refurbishments Insupolycarbonate panels are the most technically advanced roof panels available. They have unsurpassed insulation performance, 40% better than the best double glazed units available and equivalent to a filled cavity wall. They can also be supplied with transparent heat reflectors to exclude the summer solar heat so that you can use your conservatory all year round in comfort with economic fuel bills. These high performance units can also convert your conservatory into a passive solar collector in winter to reduce home heating costs. The final specifications of replacement polycarbonate panels will depend on your personal needs, the aspect of the conservatory and the current materials. Different specifications can be used to tackle the following:

  • Improved insulation - particularly important for conservatories that are north facing and get little sun. Fitting new Insupolycarbonate panels can reduce the 'U' value to an unrivalled 0.8 - as good as an insulated cavity wall! To make your conservatory usable throughout the winter without the need for expensive heating, and it could even save you up to £400 on your overall household heating bill - see passive solar collector section to see how.
  • Reduced Solar heat gain. In south facing conservatories excessive heat during the summer months can be a major cause of discomfort, and make the conservatory unusable. By employing Insu’s patented solar heat reflection technology this can be reduced by 80% so that you can use your conservatory in comfort throughout the summer.
  • Reduced glare. On bright sunny days excessive glare can be very uncomfortable. The solar reflective materials have a slight tint that, whilst transparent, reduces glare. Of course the Insupolycarbonate panels are available with no tint if preferred.
